Circa 1984

I'm on viewer's right in this picture, with high school best friend Harry Chomsky (left). Taken circa 1984. At the swing in our backyard in Lexington. Harry coined the term "The Infamous H & H Duo" for us. A Winter storm later knocked the tree down (thereby destroying also the swing) while I was in college.

My Grandfather Ezra w/my cousin Shachar at Kibbutz Hazorea, 1987 (114K).

Ezra got his B.A. in archeology in his 60's and ended up authoring this monograph.

  • Ilse Meyerhof (my grandmother) Jan 1988 at her typewriter.

Finished with my College Courses, 3/19/88.
    Back home after graduating from
Dartmouth in 10 straight quarters -- in 2½ years.

Unsorted (circa 1989/1990): The Chicago Twins.. (I'm not in picture; I'm the photographer. U of Chicago, Math Grad Students Dinner Night). Their heads were shaved for a photographer doing a series on twins. An old issue of U of Chicago magazine has photos of them and other twins. Taken sometime between summer 89 and summer 91.

During June 1994 visit to Israel With grandparents Ilse and Ezra in Kibbutz Hazorea at their home. (Speaking with my grandmother and not aware photo was being taken)

Touching an olive tree during the same 1994 trip to Israel .. Also taken at Kibbutz Hazorea

(2004 Note, in somber mood I wrote, "The Israel I knew is dead. I am not planning to visit it again.. The US is almost as tragic, but plane tickets to Mars are hard to find..")

Me in the kitchen Still not able to place this photo with certainty; maybe at David's in Rochester? Or Lexington?

A picture of me right by Sapsucker Woods... (Reebok-T, ugh! mea culpa...)
    A cropping from same picture...

November 1998: "Professional" photo for my faculty web page.

Summer 1999: With other Project NExT Fellows at summer MathFest, Toronto '99 conference.

Fall 2000 Both of these were taken at the fall picnic at Kathleen Shannon (my chair's) house:

Jumping during volleyball. That's me in the red shirt and interesting angle...maybe not elegant, but I'm effective..

  • A larger sized "professional" photo here (a better view..though I'm more handsome in person ;o)

  • Fall 2001 first offering of Math ADEPT course. A photo (it almost looks like I'm "being stern" with, it's getting them to weigh and decide about a subtle math point) and another plus a third and a fourth (my favorite? she really worked hard and while not coming in strong in math, improved a lot during the course) from my Conceptual Algebra ADEPT course. SU's press release office was in my class taking photos of their own choosing, after the big NSF grant I co-PI'd came in
